Dear Colleagues and Friends, at the end of the year we would like to look back on the last euro-scene Leipzig 2011 and give you a little preview to the Festival 2012. We hope to arouse your curiosity and to welcome you again next year. The team of the euro-scene Leipzig wishes you Merry Christmas and a continued good health, energy and luck for the year 2012.

The euro-scene Leipzig took place from 08 to 13 November 2011 for the 21st time. Under the motto »Tonstörung« (»Sound disturbance«), the festival of contemporary European theatre showed a total of 12 guest plays from 12 countries in 25 performances and 10 venues; among them 6 German premières. The festival had an utilisation of 95.7%. The opening night was held at the concert hall Gewandhaus zu Leipzig: the choreographic concert »Srh« (»Shiver«) by the company Flota from Ljubljana and the musical performance »Concerto« by Ivo Dimchev from Sofia underscored the experimental diversity from Eastern Europe. Other highlights in dance were the guest plays »Solo« by Israel Galván, Seville, and »Sideways rain« by Guilherme Botelho with his company Alias, Geneva, as final night. The music theatre »Antica« with the national theatre Prilep from Macedonia captivated by its extraordinary presentation of cultural and religious differences. It was directed by Branko Brezovec, the music was composed by Marjan Nekak. In spoken-word theatre, the German première of »la, pulemetschik« (»I am the machine gunner«) by SounDrama Studio / Vladimir Pankov, Moscow, and »Jerk« by Gisèle Vienne, Grenoble, with the outstanding acting performance of Jonathan Capdevielle especially shone. And the children's play »Der Fischer und seine Frau« (»The fisherman and his wife«) by Leipzig artists Berndt Stübner and Werner Stiefel enchanted the many small festival visitors. The diverse audience of euro-scene Leipzig 2011 also included many industry visitors from Germany and Europe. These also included students of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design over the course of multiple-day expedition under the supervision of Henning Fülle. |

The competition »Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo« (»Best German dance solo«), based on the conception by Alain Platel, Ghent, took place for the 10th time. During an internal pre-selection René Reinhardt, artistic director of the competition, and festival director Ann-Elisabeth Wolff chose 20 participants out of 88 applicants for the final three public rounds on the legendary round table. The 5-member jury awarded the 1st prize to Christine Borch from Berlin, born in Denmark. With her solo »the body that comes« she showed the existence and ideational realization of the body full of pain and intimacy. The 2nd prize and the audience award went to the Korean In-Jung Jun from Cologne, the 3rd prize went to Lotte Müller from Freiburg im Breisgau. The competition »Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo« (»Best German dance solo«) is organised biannually and planned to take place within the euro-scene Leipzig 2013 the next time. |

This year an extensive fringe programme was offered again. Eduard Gabia, Bucharest, gave the workshop »Transformance«. A particular favourite among visitors were the numerous audience discussions following the performance. The video presentation »Im Schmelztiegel der Kulturen« (»In the melting pot of cultures«) by Gordana Vnuk, head of the festival Eurokaz, Zagreb, about theatre and dance in former Yugoslavia, aroused much interest, too. Bernd E. Gengelbach, co-director and technical director of the festival, offered insights into stage technology with his guided tour in the Peterskirche. |

The euro-scene Leipzig will take place for the 22nd time from 06 to 11 November 2012 under the motto »Herbstzeitlose« (»Autumn crocus«). The festival of contemporary European theatre plans to show 12 guest plays from 10 countries in about 10 venues and 25 performances. Patron of the festival is Burkhard Jung, Lord Mayor of the city of Leipzig. The festival programme comprises dance and spoken theatre, musical stage forms, performances and a play for children. An extensive fringe programme including films, interviews and a workshop will complement the guest plays. The festival programme will be available online as from 01.07.2012. |

The German Dance Platform will take place from 23 to 26 February 2012 in Dresden. The euro-scene Leipzig is one of the currently eleven co-presenters of this important festival for innovative dance in Germany. A jury has selected ten productions. The host this year is HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts Dresden. The German Dance Platform presents since 1994 a sampling of current trends and new tendencies in the German dance scene every two years. The biennial forum is hosted in a different German city each time. |
