Introduction before the performance: Nikolaus Habjan, Vienna, and Marie Rötzer, Artistic Director Landestheater Niederösterreich, St. Pölten
The events occurring under the reign of an absolustist king are highly charged. The name Trump is never mentioned; nevertheless the references to the present are so arousing and grotesque. Elfriede Jelinek wanted Nikolaus Habjan, the famous puppeteer, puppet builder and director from Vienna, for the Austrian première of her text. With 6 actors, he created a breath-taking piece with puppets. Nikolaus Habjan was already a guest at euro-scene Leipzig in 2016 and 2018.

A woman in a white dress and red stilettos brings a hint of glamour into the room … It is Cristiana Morganti, the long-term soloist at Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater in Wuppertal. The Italian woman’s self-portrait combines fast-paced and humorous moments in Pina Bausch’s aesthetics with her own gradual detachment from this Tanztheater-icon.
