This scholarship honors a contemporary understanding of theatre, which perceives theatre to be a place as well as medium of societal understanding and dialogue in the centre of urban communities. The focus is on European emerging artists whose impact sets standards in the sense of the German actress and female theatre director Friederike Caroline Neuber (1697-1760), who was primarily active in Leipzig. The scholarship expands the Caroline-Neuber-Preis, which has been awarded since 1998.
