Alain Platel, born in Ghent in 1956, is one of the most important choreographers of our time. In 1984, he founded the company les ballets C de la B in his home city and has been a guest at euro-scene Leipzig with nine pieces, most recently with »Requiem pour L.« in 2018. The concept for the competition »Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo« (»Best German dance solo«) is also his.
In 2012, Alain Platel staged the piece »C(h)œurs« in the opera house Madrid; the title combines the French words cœurs (hearts) and chœurs (choirs). He selected choral works from the two composers Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) and Richard Wagner (1813-1883), who gave the people a voice in their magnificent operas. The charged relationship between the individual and the masses experiences another intensification through dance.
