»La Divina Commedia« (»The Divine Comedy«) is the master work of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) and a magnum opus of classical literature. The three parts deal with the three realms of the dead, which the poet travels through in the first person on his trip: »Inferno« (»Hell«), »Purgatorio« (»Purgatory«) and »Paradiso« (»Paradise«).
The famous choreographer and dancer Emio Greco and dramaturg Pieter C. Scholten have allowed their dance piece »Hell« to be inspired by »The Divine Comedy«. How do you approach such an epic work in dance? Both artists will provide information dazu persönlich.
The French film director Thierry Thomas offers an introduction to this famous yet, at least outside of Italy, little read text in his documentation. He finds fascinating images for Dante’s funnel shaped hell and scenes between the Middle Ages and contemporary, living Florence.
